Stoked for winter--

A dying fireplace,
A blackened hearth.

  2. Probably not--"This world, which is always the same for all men, neither god nor man made: it has always been, it is, and always shall be: an everlasting fire rhythmically dying and flaring up again." (Herakleitos, translated from the Greek by Guy Davenport)
