A blind man sang this song.
*
In my mind’s eye, I saw
A man named Nobody
Drive a red-hot stake of green
Olive-wood into the single
Drunken, bloodshot eye
Of a sleeping giant,
Twisting it until it hissed,
And the giant’s eye shot out
Blood and clearly saw
No longer.
*
Aye, my wandering companions,
The mind’s eye is in deed
A wondrous place,
But not for sleeping,
Stuporous giants.
Marvelous. Once again, you make me glad I am lost at sea.
ReplyDeleteA wondrous place this mind's eye in deed,as this lovely ship is!
ReplyDeleteAm I on the ship of the captain called Nobody?
Wonderful play of words and now being introduced to your wordily world,i shall come again to enjoy the warm sun on my frozen cheeks reading and dreaming,if thats all right with you?!Greetings from Holland,
Aleksandra
William,
ReplyDeleteThank you. Since you are an Armenian landlubber, I'm sure you'll appreciate these haikus by Seferis (perhaps you've seen these before but they're worth another read):
Unprofitable line
What's wrong with the rudder?
The boat inscribes circles
and there's not a single gull.

You write:
the ink grew less,
the sea increases.
Aleksandra,
Captain Nobody thanks you for coming on board his humble vessel and filling it with your warm greetings from a freezing Holland my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting as guests of some dear friends in Wageningen some years back.
I never went to Wageningen also never to Greece but I love to imagine that I was there, and Im sure of great journey experience trough your writings so it will be as I went to those wonderful places.Good day to you, your lady and the rest of your family. And,please excuse me for my bad English,I knew it better before I came to live here
ReplyDelete(I was born in Yugoslavia where I lived for 21 year,so more than the half of my life I live in Holland, where I speak Dutch),good excuse, don't you think? :O)
Great blog you have, thank you for the beauty of it.
Aleksandra
Aleksandra,
ReplyDeleteBad English? I think not--more like a beautiful spirit expressing herself graciously--thank you for the kind words.
