To My Heart, Dead Set in Its Ways

Hear me out, however late
Or hard it may be—

Do not let my crime of not listening
Make you an accessory.

  1. Carved from the stone of a dead-set heart
The talking part turned away, and what may be
    Less accessory than listening part
Saw no crime in hearing itself out.

  2. Exquisite. This put me

    "In the Museum Garden"

    Empty chairs:
    the statues have gone back
    to the other museum.

    Is it the voice
    of our dead friends or
    the gramophone?

--Haiku 3 and 4 from Seferis' "16 Haiku"
