Vacancies

  1. What a magnificent photo, Vassilis! Chairs side by side, almost entwined. A poem came to mind--and then I saw your title, which suggests an entirely different take on the scene. One hints of presence, another of absence. If those chairs are truly vacant, I want to book one! What an incredible view that must be. If that's your deck, I am soooooooo jealous. Trade you our frozen river for that sea?

  2. Empty chairs to me are always filled with the imprint of those who have sat here before.

This is a wonderful image, Vassilis.

Thank you for the view, from behind looking out, from inside looking toward, from below looking up. Thank you.

  3. Thank you both for these wonderful, perceptive comments on a photo which is also one of my favorites. It was taken on a winter's day after a strong southerly wind had done quite a bit of damage to Kalamata's seafront and to my favorite ouzeri where I like to sit with friends during the summer; though it isn't my deck, it's close enough away--18 miles--to visit whenever I feel like it.

  5. Peter,

The next time you visit us in Greece, we'll see what we can do about fulfilling your order of H20. In the meantime, thanks for responding!
