Illuminating Retrograde Selfie

Though you can’t
See it, conch-like at times

When you’re too much
With yourself, your better self

Spirals inwards—
Becoming

A glazed shell
Of a luminous

Former self.

  1. Effing fantastic! I've often said I consider myself part barnacle. Said it some poem somewhere. But that "former self" thing ... not what I had in mind, but true. Vero nihil verius, as the motto of the man whose pseudonym was "Shakespeare" had it: "Nothing truer than truth."

  2. Hello again, Joe, and thanks again for your comments; I wonder if you picked up on the veiled reference to poem #7 from my little book, "Aural" published years ago by the late Gil Ott. One more example of how poems get lodged in your subconscious and stay submerged until they come up for air--transmogrified into. . . . . .barnacles! https://vazambam.blogspot.com/2009/02/aural.html
