This calls forth two things from the mind, that box of perpetual surprises.
1. Ed Wood, Jr. recycling some cemetery footage of the by-then-deceased Bela Lugosi, shot three years earlier, in Plan Nine From Outer Space, a film in which aliens incorporating themselves as stiffs threaten to take over the planet.
2. The news item of yesterday re. the Indian power failures, noting that when the power went out in the crematoriums a considerable number of stiffs were, quite inconveniently, not yet completely toasted. An earlier technology (cultural custom), forgot by all but a few, had to be resuscitated.
Woodn't you know it--two scenes from that unjustly neglected classic film "The Petrified Forest"! Thanks for reminding us that some people out there can still see the trees.
