Excellent. And the consonants at the end of words at the end of lines (write / book / writ / bucket / it) work wonderfully well with the liquid repeated s sounds in the poem and somehow, which I can't explain, the sound of the final line (and how "hole" is emphasized when I read the poem aloud) sounds like an opening, a hole. Looks like a "simple" poem and ain't! Plus, psychologically, the poem seems so true!

ReplyDeleteAnother fine, close reading from you again. Just wondering--did you pick up on the rather murky reference to Keats?

ReplyDeleteNo, I did not get the reference, although in hindsight I don't think it is very murky.
