Nepenthe, Et in Suburbia Ego

Your narcotic quiet settling
Round the circle at the end
Of the dead-end street—

Even the white
Lilies ringing it seem
To have fallen asleep.

NB:  An Atmosphere You Can Trust

  1. Yes. The agent from the funeral home insisted we call it "sleeping".

    Those flowers are not dead.

  2. Nor will they wake after the wake is over; it's a uniquely horrible American strain of circumambulation that strikes them around every presidential election time.
