old or new poem written off
the old writer's block
Makes me think of the of the immortal T.J. Bass' Half Past Human - a world dominated by terminator seed crops and farmed by machine, a dead ocean, mankind in a giant hive with chalk for bones and rosewater for blood. An extension of Paradise with underground gates. Long live the five-toed buckeye gene!
OMG--that doesn't sound like the land of milk and honey at all!
No, just an inevitable result of greatest good for greatest number, as interpreted by that which has no soul. I must recommend both books - Half Past Human and its sequel, The Godwhale - might be a little hard to find but very well worth the read. Bass (his real name Basler, I think) was a biochemist by trade but also wrote the best stuff this side of Cordwainer Smith.
