Elation

A high bluff overlooking the sea;
You ring the bell of a solitary

Whitewashed chapel, the blue sky swells
With undulating tintinnabulations,

The earth moves imperceptibly
Under your feet.

  1. Gorgeous! No other word will do, or is needed. At least from me. Thank you for the elation....

  2. Beautiful to be so lifted up and out of one's claybound tracks for this one trembling moment...

  3. nice piece almost a song / psalm
which brings back images - memories
in mind of that little stone chapel up on
the bluff above the Bay of St. Paul

a stone trail led up to it and me and Fay ( then Pauline)
( which it just struck me that she was in English named after Paul?)

used to go up and sit in that little chapel which the locals
said was the place that Paul built and lived in when he was
    banished to Rhodes / Lindos.
NOW ? here is what has become of that little stone
    chapel :

it is now big and a destination for weddings...
the original one that we went into in 1968-69\did NOT have a bell ...

will try to find the poem that I wrote in 1968 that I titled:
    The Bay of St. Paul

    and pinning down

that imperceptible "movement" under my feet
    and in my mind
IS what motivates (me) towards that next poem / painting....

    cheers, Ed

  4. here is that poem that I promised you.... hope that it adds something to what you posit:

    The Bay of St. Paul

That I had come to ponder the sounds of water there is no doubt
    but found rather
    granite hills white waves
the air filled with the sound of bees
with blue sky clouds with thunder
a deluge of rain the isle aflame
St. Paul filled with the dance and blown sky

HECK ! it did NOT format correctly...
will send you the pdf of the ms that it is in
    if interested.

  5. Thrown by this: the feel of some small precarious moment of beauty.

    Very lovely.

  6. Thanks, friends. I’m glad (perhaps "elated" would be a better word) this little offering received such a warm response!

@Ed—thanks for the link; as for your incorrectly formatted little poem, you graciously sent me RATULA some time ago, so I know what it looks like.

    Cheers to all of you.
