Depression in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin

Remember our pale, blue
Picket fence, Dad?

We painted it,
As good as new.

You stepped on the gas
Instead of braking,

Shot the Chevy thru.

  1. A tribute to Lorine Niedecker's great poem about childhood and memory. The Zambaras take, so to speak, is more comic; both the Niedecker and the Zambaras poems are poignant regarding childhood and loss.
