Fixation (In the Manner of O'Hara)

I don’t have a cat
But if I did, I know

I’d want it to be
Like Frank’s great

Orange tawny one, Boris
(Armed with Madness) Butts,

The one he describes so lovingly,
Aptly in “Cantata”—

And if you want to know
Why, you’ll just have to

Part with that wild hair
Up your ass, too.

  1. In this instance, ours is not to reason why.

I love that orange cat too!

(Though its nonfictional name is not Boris but Kimmy. Poetic license has been claimed here.)

  2. In this instance, might not poetic license be defined as the freedom to (mis)appropriate a poet’s good name in a half-assed effort to create something “poetic”?
